There are a number of reasons why residents love living in Quincy.
The town’s array of Victorian homes in the quaint downtown district, the modern Gadsden Arts Center, which exhibits the work of local artists, and the downtown square, built around the Gadsden County Courthouse, are an appeal to locals and visitors alike.
In addition to traditional single-family homes, in the area, you’ll find a number of country homes, farms and acreage, recreation properties, and investment properties as well.
In Q1 of 2022 (January - March), 39 residential homes sold in the city of Quincy. The average list price was $220,830 and the average sales price was $216,466 - approximately $4,000 under asking. This is slightly less than the price points we see for homes in Havana, Florida, another nearby town within easy commuting distance to Tallahassee.
On average, homes were on the market for 52 days before selling, with the high at 166 days and the low at 30 days. Homes ranged greatly in size; from 864 sq. ft. to 4,320 sq. ft. That being said, the majority of homes sold this quarter contained 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. In terms of lot size, most homes sold in Quincy were on under 1 acre, although there were a few homes that sold on 1+ acre lots.
One of Quincy’s “claim to fame” is the local residents’ involvement with the development of the Coca-Cola company, when it first started out. Quincy was once rumored to be the home of the most millionaires per capita, because so many residents has purchased stock from the company, before it grew into the Coca-Cola brand we all know today. Some local bankers, Pat Monroe and W.C. Bradley, urged widows and farmers to invest $40 each and many of them did.
In perspective, a single share of Coca-Cola stock bought in 1919 for $40 would be worth $6.4 million today, if all dividends had been reinvested.
